Difference between breadfruit, kluwih, jackfruit and cempedak
Breadfruit , kluwih , jackfruit , cempedak … The four fruits are indeed familiar with the shape of the fruit that looks the same, the taste and even the tree resembles each other. Makes some people mistaken to be able to tell the difference. Of the 4 pieces, there are 2 kinds of shapes that are agreed to resemble the other 2 pieces.
It means this, breadfruit is often equated with kluwih fruit, and vice versa. Jackfruit is also often equated with cempedak fruit. Although they belong to the same genus, Artocarpus, they are completely different. Well, to make it easy to distinguish, this article will provide a brief review of the differences in these fruits which will be described by comparing 2 groups of fruits that have been confusing you.
1. Difference between Sukun and Kluwih
At first glance, the shape of the fruit is the same. Namely, oval and green or yellowish green. Especially if you look at the tree, almost exactly. But if you want to see the difference, look at the texture of the skin of the fruit. Breadfruit has a slightly rough skin texture when the fruit is still raw and soft when the fruit is ripe. While the kluwih fruit has a thorny fruit skin texture. Like the skin of an unripe durian fruit.
Then, pay attention to the flesh. When you split the breadfruit, you will see white flesh with a thickness of approximately 7 cm. Full flesh, without seeds. Meanwhile, when you split the kluwih fruit, the flesh will show the seeds.
2. Differences between Jackfruit and Cempedak
Jackfruit and Cempedak sometimes make people confused. From
the physical appearance of the fruit, the shape is almost the same,
namely, oval and large, also both have seeds in the flesh that are
hidden in the fruit. To
distinguish them, the skin texture of jackfruit is slightly prickly,
while cempedak has the same texture as the skin of breadfruit. Then the size of the jackfruit is usually fatter and larger, while the cempedak is longer and somewhat slender.
If it is described one by one, it will be like this:
Sukun
- Latin name Artocarpus altilis.
- The skin texture is not prickly.
- Flesh without seeds.
Kluwih

- Thorny skin, the thorns are smaller than the durian skin thorns.
- The size of the fruit varies, some are oval, some are fat oval.
- The aroma is not too strong before splitting.
Cempedak
- Latin name Artocarpus Integer.
- The skin texture is softer, almost like the skin of a breadfruit.
- The size of the fruit is oval and slimmer than the jackfruit.
- The aroma is very strong even before it is split.
These fruits are indeed different from each other, but when eaten, they taste equally delicious…
It's
just that they need to be distinguished, so that their identities are
not confused again… Just like you-you guys, of course you don't want
your identity to be changed- exchange even with the identity of
